Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti was released on bail from the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos, on Tuesday night.
His lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, confirmed this in a telephone interview with reporters. Kuti had been charged with assaulting a police officer during an incident on the Third Mainland Bridge on May 13, 2023.
He was arraigned on May 16 and initially remanded for 48 hours.
The Chief Magistrate ordered his release on bail after the remand period, requiring payment of N1 million and two sureties of the same amount. Subsequently, on May 18, the case was adjourned to yesterday, May 23, for mention.
The Magistrate directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send a copy to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for further advice.
