Liverpool and Portugal footballer Diogo Jota has tragically passed away in a car accident in Spain today. He was 28 years old. Jota had recently married a week ago and was a father to three children.

The fatal crash took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. local time near the town of Cernadilla in the Zamora region of northwestern Spain.
Jota’s brother, André Silva—also a professional footballer—was in the car with him and also lost his life.

According to Spain’s Guardia Civil, the accident was likely caused by a “burst tire while overtaking.”
The car, which Spanish news outlets identified as a Lamborghini, “caught fire and both occupants died.”
The Government Sub-delegation in Zamora informed PA that the crash is under investigation as “a possible speeding incident.”
Jota, known for his attacking prowess, played a crucial role in Liverpool’s recent title-winning campaign, contributing six goals and four assists in 26 matches. During his time at Anfield, he helped the club secure three major trophies. Internationally, he was part of the Portugal squad that clinched two Nations League titles.
