President Bola Ahmed Tinubu firmly reiterated yesterday (12-06-2025) that there is no intention to transform Nigeria into a one-party state.
Reaffirming his dedication to maintaining a vibrant multi-party democracy, he described fears of a single-party system as mere speculation and unfounded concerns.
Addressing a joint session of the National Assembly during his first-ever ‘State of the Nation Address’, President Tinubu assured that under his administration, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would not seek to dominate the political space at the expense of other parties.

The session, which took place in Abuja, was attended by prominent Nigerians, including former Senate Presidents and past Speakers of the House of Representatives. Vice President Kashim Shettima and several ministers were also in attendance.

Lawmakers interrupted the address several times with rounds of applause, and the ceremony featured the popular pro-Tinubu anthem, “On your mandate we shall stand.”
The address marked a key moment in the Democracy Day celebrations, which this year commemorated 26 years of continuous democratic governance and the anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, won by the late Chief Moshood Abiola of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP).

This was the second instance in which the President publicly dismissed allegations from opposition figures suggesting that the APC was plotting to establish a one-party system. The first time he addressed the claim was during the APC summit held at the Aso Villa last month.
As part of the Democracy Day events, President Tinubu also launched a credit initiative aimed at benefiting 400,000 Nigerian youths, including National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
