Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has urged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to allocate its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria.
He made this call while presenting the communiqué from a PDP stakeholders’ gathering held in Abuja yesterday, under the platform of “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP.”
Wike, who currently serves as a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, had earlier pledged to work towards Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
It is worth noting that in May, the APC leadership had already endorsed President Tinubu for an automatic return ticket for the 2027 polls.
During Monday’s meeting, Wike stated that his support for the PDP in the next presidential election hinges on the party zoning its presidential ticket to the South.
He emphasized the importance of this move in upholding fairness, inclusion, the federal character principle, and the PDP’s constitution.
“The party must clearly announce the zoning of its 2027 presidential candidate to the South, especially after the continuous leadership from the North during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration,” Wike declared.

He added, “According to the provisions of our party’s constitution, only the National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, has the authority to issue notifications for meetings of the National Convention, National Executive Committee, National Caucus, and the National Working Committee.

Therefore, any notices or related actions not issued by him, including communications with INEC, are null and void.”
“To prevent the steady decline of our party into irrelevance, immediate compliance with the Supreme Court judgment is essential,” he stressed.
“We hereby strongly reaffirm Senator Sam Anyanwu as the legitimately elected and current National Secretary of our great party,” Wike concluded.
