Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos has handed down six-month prison sentences to Babatunde Olaitan and Tobiloba Olamide (popularly known as TobiNation) for mishandling naira notes at a social gathering.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured the convictions after charging the two individuals separately with violating Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which bans spraying or defacing Nigerian currency.
According to the charge against Olaitan, on April 8, 2025, he was seen spraying ₦200 notes while dancing at a party held at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. Olamide was accused of committing the same offense at the same location and date.
Both defendants pleaded guilty when brought before the Court.

EFCC prosecutors, C.C. Okezie and H.U. KofarNaisa, presented the case through an EFCC investigator, Ibrahim Bukar, who told the court that a video showing the act was discovered on TikTok and triggered the investigation.
He testified that Olaitan, who also goes by the name TDollar, came in for questioning on May 5, 2025, and confessed that he had received the money from a fan at a nightclub and sprayed it during the event.
The EFCC presented the video and the defendants’ written confessions as part of the evidence.
After reviewing the facts, the prosecution requested the court to convict and sentence the accused. Justice Owoeye agreed and ruled that both men would serve six months in prison or pay a ₦200,000 fine each as an alternative.
Their sentencing is part of the EFCC’s continued efforts to crack down on abuse of the Nigerian currency.
