Hon. Meranda, who assumed the responsibilities of the Speaker amid internal leadership disputes within the Assembly, voluntarily stepped down after 49 days in office. Her resignation forms part of a broader effort to restore stability and cohesion within the legislative arm of the state. Read article on Meranda’s resignation here.

Subsequent to her resignation, members of the House unanimously reinstated Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa to his position as Speaker. The House also re-elected Hon. Meranda to her former role as Deputy Speaker, effectively re-establishing the leadership structure that existed prior to the crisis.
