President Bola Tinubu held a meeting with the service chiefs at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.
This meeting, which is a regular occurrence in previous administrations, marks the first gathering since President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.
The attendees at this initial engagement between the President and the heads of the country’s security and intelligence agencies included the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao; Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba; Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser, stated that the President stressed the importance of frequent consultations among the security agencies.
Furthermore, the President directed the security agencies to create a comprehensive plan to combat crude oil theft, recognizing the need to adapt to the changing times.
During the two-hour meeting, the President conveyed his strong determination to build upon previous successes, rectify setbacks, and shift the country’s fortunes in a positive direction, as relayed by the NSA.
President Tinubu also expressed his belief that Nigeria should not remain in a state of struggle while witnessing other countries progress and achieve remarkable feats.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, the President revealed his approach to addressing security concerns, which involves embracing modern security strategies to enhance the country’s security prospects.
